Rhythm & Sound
The Versions
The Versions is not a record that announces itself. It arrives quietly, as all the best Rhythm & Sound material does, and simply begins to work. This 2026 repress of the 2004 Burial Mix compilation brings together the B-sides of the celebrated BM-06 to BM-13 ten-inch series — eight instrumental productions from Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus that, gathered together across a single LP, reveal the full depth and coherence of the Rhythm & Sound project in instrumental form.
Stripped of the vocal collaborations that defined the A-sides of those releases, The Versions lays bare the architecture — the pulsing low-end, the slowly morphing chord structures, the dub delays that ripple outward through vast, submerged space. Without a vocal presence to anchor the ear, the productions become fully immersive environments, each track unfolding with the patience and precision that made Rhythm & Sound one of the defining projects at the intersection of reggae tradition and Berlin dub techno. Essential catalogue, back on wax and as vital as ever.
