Thunder And Roses
King Of The Black Sunrise
Led by explosive guitar player Chris Bond (later Christa Bond) along with Tom Schaffer on bass and George Emme on drums, THUNDER and ROSES was a power-trio from Philly in the best tradition of Cream or the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
"King Of The Black Sunrise" was their sole album, originally released in 1969. A cult psychedelic hard-rock classic, including tracks like “White Lace and Strange”, famously covered by Nirvana in the 90s.
After Thunder & Rosers split, guitar player and main songwriter Chris Bond had a successful career as producer, songwriter, arranger and session musician, working closely with Daryl Hall & John Oates as well as other top artists. Some of her songs were played/recorded by Freda Payne, Richie Havens or Jim Capaldi. As a transgender, Chris eventually transitioned to Christa and she dedicated her later years to try to support young women in music.
She passed away in 2019.
