Armageddon
Victoria One (VICTORIA ONE 246)
Release date: Jan 1, 2025, Australia
Victoria One reissues "Armageddon" by The Maze, digitally restored for new audiences. Featuring original 1968 tracks plus rare bonus content, this release offers the definitive psychedelic legacy of late 60s San Francisco.
Victoria One is proud to announce the official reissue and digital restoration of Armageddon by legendary San Francisco psych-rockers The Maze. Originally recorded at Leo Kulka’s Golden State Recorders between September 1967 and March 1968, and first released in 1968, Armageddon has long been celebrated as a cult classic—a dark, heavy, and hypnotic journey through swirling organs, fuzz-laden guitars, and haunting minor-key melodies that epitomize the late 60s Bay Area soun.
Emerging from the ashes of their folk-rock incarnation as Stonehenge, The Maze (William Gardner – organ/vocals, Jeff Jensen – guitar/vocals, Kit Boyd – bass, Rick Eittreim – drums) crafted a singular vision of psychedelic rock that stands apart from the era’s more bombastic offerings. Their music is steeped in melancholy, with long, exploratory solos and a brooding atmosphere that has captivated collectors and fans for decades.
This Victoria One edition features the original seven tracks from the 1968 LP—including the epic title track “Armageddon,” the expansive “I’m So Sad,” and the enigmatic “Whispering Shadows”—plus rare bonus material from the band’s earlier Stonehenge period, previously unreleased instrumentals, and alternate versions, providing the most complete picture of The Maze’s creative evolution ever assembled.
With state-of-the-art remastering and meticulous attention to detail, Victoria One ensures that every nuance of this underground masterpiece is preserved for new generations of listeners.
