Released in 1968, Release Of An Oath is the fourth studio album by The Electric Prunes and one of the most ambitious works of the late psychedelic era. Composed and arranged by David Axelrod, the album is built around a dramatic choral and orchestral concept inspired by Axelrod’s Mass In F Minor. Combining psychedelic rock, baroque arrangements, and spiritual themes, the record departs from the band’s earlier garage-psych sound and stands as a bold, experimental statement of late-’60s West Coast psychedelia.
