Moodymann
Silence In The Secret Garden
Translucent smokey vinyl 2xLP with obi-strip
2025 Reissue
Originally released in 2003, Silence In The Secret Garden was the a pivotal debut for Detroit dogstar Kenny Dixon Jr aka Moodymann. Though he's now notorious for his outfits, eclectic selections, Prince shrines and coteries of ladies accompanying him during interviews, Dixon's patent sound-schemes of dusty house, gospel, soul and jazz were then to be unscrolled like a yet undiscovered papyrus, causing a real stir indeed. Earlier EPs and singles than this were given to funk-laced sample flips, but it's this debut LP that set aside Moodymann as a real creative force in the world: shot glass tinkles, late night club night persiflage, and respect for the sample source are the rules of the game on the slow mahogany braises of 'LiveInLA 1998' and 'Backagainforthefirsttime?'.
